09.02 Multi-Condition Takeoff (patented) (Taking off more than one Takeoff Item at a time)

Last Updated: 2022-09-01 12:23

At ConstructConnect, our goal is to make taking off your Project faster, more efficient, more accurate, and with fewer clicks - saving you time so you can get more bids out the door with the greatest confidence in your numbers.

  • To takeoff walls, ceilings, floors, and trim you could grab one Takeoff Item, draw the walls, pick a different Takeoff Item, draw the ceilings, grab a third Takeoff Item and draw the floors, then grab a fourth Takeoff Items to draw the perimeter (again) to account for baseboard and/or trim.
  • Or, to take off electrical runs where there is a junction box for every segment you could grab a Linear Takeoff Item, draw all the runs, then go back and place a Count object at the end of each segment.

You could do it that way, but we developed a better solution: Multi-Condition (Takeoff Item) Takeoff (patented). Using Multi-Condition Takeoff, you can grab any number of Takeoff Items (previously known as "Conditions"), adhering to a few rules noted below, and draw all that takeoff once. With minimal clicks, the program draws takeoff for each of the selected Takeoff Items.

Multi-Condition Takeoff Rules and Restrictions

Of course, like all good things in life, there are a few rules:

  • You cannot use Attachments Takeoff Items with Multi-Condition Takeoff - they must be placed separately (the program has no way of knowing where a window would go on a wall or a light fixture in a ceiling).
  • Count objects are placed at the vertices (Area takeoff) or segment breaks (Linear takeoff) - after performing the takeoff, you can re-position Count objects, if needed. Because Counts are placed at the 'corners', so to speak, if you select a Count Takeoff Item, the Elliptical tool is disabled (no corners in an ellipse).
  • Areas are snapped to the center of Linear takeoff objects (so, if your linear object is say, 6" wide, the area takeoff snaps to 3" inside the linear objects.
  • The tools and methods you use to draw takeoff are based on the Types of Takeoff Items you select (Linears, Linears with Areas, Linears with Areas and Counts, Areas alone, etc.).

Multi-Condition takeoff objects of the same Type (Linear, Area, Count) are placed on top of each other so it may be difficult to see the individual takeoff objects, but they are there. Use the individual Takeoff Item Layers toggle to show/hide takeoff for individual Takeoff Items. This makes it easier to see the takeoff for each Takeoff Item.

This biggest difference in how you draw Multi-Condition Takeoff is if your selected Takeoff Items include any Area Type Takeoff Items - you can use the Area takeoff tools.
