In the previous Chapter (see Related Articles), we learned how to use Bid Areas, and more important, how to assign takeoff to a Bid Area.
The process is the same for assigning
takeoff to a
Typical Area, you just select a
Typical Area in the Areas drop-down instead of a
Bid Area.
To account for our Elevator lobbies (see the example at the beginning of this section for a refresher):
Draw takeoff on the 1ST Floor Plan (we will not demonstrate drawing the takeoff). Note the Takeoff Items' Results before we assign the takeoff to the Typical Area.
Now, select the takeoff and assign it to the 10' Typical Area.
Notice that the Takeoff Items' Results have increased (by a factor of 3, to account for the three Bid Areas we indicated where this Typical Area repeated in the previous article).
Navigate to the Typical 4-22 Plan and draw the takeoff. We draw the takeoff because it is a slightly different shape than the 8'00" Page (the elevator lobby's walls are slightly bumped in on the upper floors). If the takeoff was exactly the same shape, and only the Height was different, we could copy and paste the takeoff and use the "Reassign Objects" function to transfer the takeoff from one Takeoff Item to another.
Again, note the Takeoff Items' Results before assigning the takeoff to the Typical Area.
After we assign that takeoff to the 8' Typical Area, we see that the Takeoff Items' Results have increased (substantially, by a factor of 18).
We cover detailed use of the Summary Tab in Related Articles, remember, the totals you see in the Takeoff Items Pane are those for the Active Page only.
