What are the Differences between Oasis Takeoff and ConstructConnect Takeoff

Last Updated: 2020-04-16 19:28

Oasis Takeoff and ConstructConnect Takeoff are powerful takeoff products offered by ConstructConnect. Oasis Takeoff was the original cloud-enabled takeoff product, developed and sold by On Center Software (now a part of the ConstructConnect family of companies). ConstructConnect Takeoff is the evolution of that product, but much, more more.

This article is intended to show you, assuming you use Oasis Takeoff already, the major user-experience changes between Oasis Takeoff and ConstructConnect Takeoff (you can refer to the first as "Oasis" and the second as "CC Takeoff", if you like). There are significant changes in "the cloud" that you don't see, although you'll experience a better, faster, more integrated product.

Logging In

Oasis Takeoff ConstructConnect Takeoff
  • Each time you open the application, you are presented with the Login screen (you may have opted to have the screen save your login credentials, but you will still need to login).
  • If you are a member of more than one Organization, you select the Organization you want to work in after logging in.
  • To switch organizations, you close the program and log in again.

  • You are required to enter your login credentials once. The program uses those same credentials to log you in going forward, on this machine, that is.
  • Users can be a member of one and only one Organization at a time. If you accept an invitation to join a different organization, your access to your original organization is removed (you can always be invited to that organization again).

The Projects and Bids List

Oasis Takeoff ConstructConnect Takeoff
  • The Oasis Takeoff main screen is broken into two panels. On the left is a list of all your Projects, and on the right, is a list of the bids within the selected Project
  • Each panel includes its own set of action buttons, shared by all projects or bids, for creating and duplicating projects or bids.
  • Along the top of the application are links to the Settings (Masters and Options) menu and the Help menu.

Oasis Takeoff Projects and Bids List
  • ConstructConnect Takeoff uses more of a nested view so that more information for each project is shown in the grid (including the Organization, your current Access level, and other Project details).
  • To see the bids within a project, you just click the arrow next > to a Project Name.
  • The action item buttons for each project or bid are listed to the right of the Name.
  • Along the top of the application, you'll see the Add, Duplicate, Delete buttons, and your menu that provides access to Masters, Settings, and all your familiar Help resources.

Project Access Control

Oasis Takeoff ConstructConnect Takeoff
  • All users in your organization have full access to all projects in the Organization.
  • Even though you can be added to more than one Organization, you only see one Organization's projects when you are using the application.

  • When you create a project in CC Takeoff, or when a project is "pushed to Takeoff" from Project Intelligence, all users in your Organization are granted "Project Owner" access.
  • Project Owners can restrict other users' access to a project:
    • No Access - the project will not show up in that user's Projects and Bids List at all.
    • Read Only - the user will be able view the project (plans, takeoff, annotation), but will not be able to edit anything, including the Plan Organizer.
    • Markups - the user can add annotations to the plans but cannot add Takeoff Items or draw/edit takeoff.
    • Takeoff and Markups - user can edit everything but the Plan Organizer.
    • Project Owners - full access, including changing other users' access.

Deleted Projects and Bids

  • You can restore a "soft-deleted" project up to the point that you click the "Permanently Delete" button (the 2nd trashcan) in the toolbar.

  • When you delete a project or bid, it is moved to the "Recycle Bin" at the bottom of the Projects and Bids List.
  • You can restore any project or bid in the Recycle Bin up to the point that you "empty" the bin by clicking the Empty Bin button.

Project Intelligence Integration

A major difference between Oasis Takeoff and ConstructConnect Takeoff is that ConstructConnect integrates directly with ConstructConnect's Project Intelligence platform.

If you are using Project Intelligence, and your company owns licenses for Takeoff, when you are reviewing a project's details page, and if there are Plans added to the project, you can click the "Create Project in ConstructConnect Takeoff" button.

CCPI - Create project in CCTO

You may be prompted to confirm action, do so.

Once the project is ready to view in ConstructConnect Takeoff, you'll see the "Project Created" confirmation. Click the button that reads "Open in ConstructConnect Takeoff".

CCPI - project ready to open in CCTO

If you have not installed CCTO, you will be prompted to do so. We're assuming you've already installed it so the project is visible in the Projects and Bids List.

The Plan Organizer and Project Intelligence projects

When you are working in a project that is linked to Project Intelligence, all changes to the Plans should be made in Project Intelligence.

Although you can open the Plan Organizer for a CCPI project in CC-Takeoff, any changes you make can be lost when the project refreshes after changes are made to the plan documents in CCPI.

The Takeoff Tab

There are a lot of visual changes on the Takeoff Tab, although functionally, the two programs are identical.

Oasis Takeoff ConstructConnect Takeoff

Oasis Takeoff Takeoff Tab
  • Changes to the Takeoff Tab are mostly cosmetic.
  • New icons, but everything is located in the same place, generally speaking, as Oasis Takeoff
  • One major difference, you can access the Settings and Help menu from the Takeoff, Summary, and Worksheet Tabs now.
  • Another significant change is that you cannot access the Cover Sheet or Plan Organizer from the Takeoff Tab. You open the Bid's Cover Sheet and the Plan Organizer from the Projects and Bids List.
