ConstructConnect Takeoff includes powerful, built-in searching, filtering, sorting, and grouping functions that help you find what you need or refine the view on a screen to make using the program faster and more efficient.
We are going to cover searching, filtering, grouping, sorting, and grouping very briefly below and detail them later when we cover the screens in which the function is used.
Searching
Searching the Projects and Bids List
There is an omni-search box on the Projects and Bids List that searches several columns for the keyword you enter.
Searching the Master Lists
There is a Search box on every tab in the Masters that searches for the keyword you enter.
Filtering
You may notice that most Column headers include a Filter control that looks a bit like a funnel: . Filters allow you restrict a list to a specific entry.
As an example, we could filter the Takeoff Items Pane to a specific Takeoff Item Group, such as "Floors". We refer to the Takeoff Items Pane often because it contains a lot of controls and you use it quite a bit when using the ConstructConnect Takeoff.
This filter is persistent meaning the filter is not cleared even when you close and reopen the program. You must click the button again and select "Clear" to reset the view.
Sorting
Lists can be sorted by any Column header by clicking once or twice on that Header name.
The sort key shows an up or down arrow indicating whether the list is being sorted in ascending (upward pointing arrowhead) or descending order (downward pointing arrowhead).
Sorting by Multiple Columns
If there is more than one sortable column in a screen, you can sort by more than one column.
Press the Ctrl button after you click the sort for the first column, and then, while holding down the CTRL button, click the header for another row.
In our example, we click "Type", press and hold the Ctrl key, and click "No.".
Notice, the Takeoff Items are now sorted by "Type" first, then within those Types, by No. - the first column you click on is the primary sort.
You can click on as many Columns as you desire, although eventually, you can get to the point the the data cannot be sorted within the parent sort anymore. For example, no amount of sorting is going to change the fact that there is only one Takeoff Item of Type "Concrete" in our example, and its position is set by the primary sort.
Grouping
Sometimes, it may be helpful to group lists or records by a common field. For example, many users find it helpful to group the Takeoff Items Pane by "Type".
In the screenshot above, the Takeoff Items Pane is grouped by Takeoff Item Group (as assigned in the Takeoff Item Properties).
You can use the Expand All and Collapse All buttons once a list is grouped.
