05.04.03 Edit Toolbar

Last Updated: 2022-06-16 14:47

The Edit Takeoff tools are pretty much standard "Windows Program" controls such as Cut, Copy, Paste, and Delete, plus a few Takeoff-centric tools such as Duplicate, Undo, and Redo.

Edit Takeoff toolbar

Note
The buttons on the Edit Takeoff Toolbar are disabled until you draw or select something (a piece of takeoff or some annotation) on the Page.

ButtonDescriptionKeyboard ShortcutWhat it does/How it is used...
undo button - looks like a left-pointing curved arrowUndoCtrl + ZUndoes the last action - limited to editing objects within the Takeoff Window. For example, you cannot undo deleting a Takeoff Item or a Layer because they are not within the Takeoff Window, however, you can undo deleting takeoff or annotations because they reside within the Takeoff Window).
redo button - looks like a right-pointing curved arrowRedoCtrl + YRedoes an 'undone' action - only active after the Undo button is used.
magnifier buttonMagnifier ToolCtrl + MMagnifies a region of a plan without changing the zoom level for the Page. Select the tool and click on the area to magnify. Un-magnifies when you select a different tool or a Takeoff Item to perform takeoff.
If you wanted to zoom in on a particular region of the plan, hold down the CTRL key and click-drag on the plan, magnify is temporary, zooming is persistent.
cut button - looks like a pair of scissorsCutCtrl + XUsed for moving something from one location to another.
copy button - looks like two sheets of paperCopyCtrl + CUsed for copying something from one location to another.
paste button - looks like a clipboardPasteCtrl + VUsed to paste something that was cut or copied to a new location.
duplicate button - looks like two dog-eared sheets of paperDuplicateCtrl + DDuplicates selected takeoff object(s) and offsets the copy slightly in relation to the original (a one-step Copy and Paste function). Alternately, activates "Paste at Click" function, see below.
delete button - looks like a big XDeleteDELDeletes selected takeoff object(s).

Paste at Click

If you select one or more takeoff objects, when you press and hold the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + D, you enter "Paste-at-Click" mode. Paste-at-Click displays a representation of what you have copied (what you are going to duplicate) before placing it on the Page - sort of a 'ghost' of what is to be pasted. When you are satisfied with the objects' position, you click your mouse and the objects are pasted exactly where you want. You can reuse this Duplicated takeoff until you copy something else - even on other Pages. See Chapter 9 for lots of information about manipulating your takeoff after you have drawn it.
