07.04.10 Manually Setting the Length of a Linear Takeoff (to Scale)
Last Updated: 2022-02-22 07:18
There are two times you may want to set the length of a linear segment manually:
You draw a segment using a normal Linear Takeoff Item and it is almost the correct length, but you want to adjust it just a bit to be an exact length (this article)
You set up a Linear Takeoff Item and choose "Manual Length" (meaning you have to tell the program how long each segment is; they are not to scale of course - covered in the next article)
Setting the Length of a Calculated Segment
Note
The rest of this article assumes you are using a Takeoff Item that is not set to "Manual Length Entry". If you are drawing takeoff with a Linear Takeoff Item set to "Manual entry", please see the next article.
Let's say we've taken off a linear segment, and it almost matches the plan. We can set the size of the segment to the exact dimension shown on the plan and then adjust its position on the plan if necessary.
To adjust an existing Linear takeoff object to a specific length:
Draw a segment that is 'close', in this case, we are trying to draw that 14' wall
Right-click on the segment, and select "Set Manual Length" on the context menu
Notice that little measurement entry box? Type in the exact segment length in the dimension/measurement box (remember, the last two digits are always considered inches so we entered 1400 for 14'00")
Hit Enter or click away from that entry box
Now the segment is exactly 14'00" long.
Because this takeoff object is still "to Scale", it should match the plan exactly.
Warning
Before drawing any takeoff, you must set and verify Scale, see Related Articles.
