Area Attachments account for objects that attach to and deduct from Area takeoff. For example, if you measured an acoustical ceiling or tile floor, an Attachment could be something that replaces part of that Area with a counted object - such as a light or vent. Using an Area Attachment (circle, square, rectangle, or triangle) allows you to not only count those objects, but also adjust the parent Takeoff Item's Results to reflect those subtractions.
For our example, we start out by drawing this gridded area object (please note the Results before we place the Attachments)...
Now, we place our Attachment, a lightbox that is 24x48*, on that area. The parent object is plenty large, so we know the Attachment will "fit" on the parent object, with room to spare. For Area Attachments, the Attachment's dimensions (in the Takeoff Item's Properties) must be smaller than the area object into which it is being attached.
Because the program is precise with calculations, you need to set the Attachment to 1" greater than the true dimensions if you want to affect Visible Tile Count (one of our selected Results).
Notice, the Results for the Parent (that are setup to account for Attachments) are reduced, including the Visible Tile Count.
If you do not want to reduce the parent's measurements, (perhaps you use that overage to account for waste), just select a Result that does not "minus attachment...'
