There are two ways of filtering the Summary Tab, using the Column Headers Filters and using the Filtering/Grouping controls on the right side of the Summary Tab. We cover Filtering by Column Header below and cover the Pivot Table Controls in the next article.
The easiest and most basic way of filtering the Summary Tab is to use Column header filters.
Next to each Header (Column name) there is a filter button (), click that button to open a list of available fields by which you can filter this particular column.
For our example, we already added the "Takeoff Item Group" column to our grid (see Related Articles for details on showing/hiding columns). Now, we are going to filter by Takeoff Item Group, specifically, to the Takeoff Item Group "Walls - Interior".
We removed the check mark from everything but "Walls - Interior" (you can also click the "Select All" to toggle between All or None, then click on the one or two Filter criteria you want).
Click the button and the filter is applied to the Grid. As you can see, only the two Takeoff Items set to the Takeoff Item Group of "Walls - Interior" are displayed.
Notice, the values in the Bid Total and Sub Total columns still match - that is because a Takeoff Item can only be assigned to only one Takeoff Item Group so the entire Takeoff Item quantity is associated with that Takeoff Item Group. (We show you how the grid can be filtered by fields that split up a Takeoff Item's results such as Bid Area in the next article.)
To clear a filter,
- Click the button again to open the filter control again
- Click "Select All"
- Click the button and the filter is removed from the Grid
You can use the Pivot Table Controls on the right side of the Summary Tab to filter the grid also. See the next article for details.
Column Filters are persisted when you leave the Summary Tab (to go to the Takeoff or Worksheet Tabs), when you close the Bid, and even when you shut down the program. When you reopen the Summary Tab, be sure you clear the filter or click the button to clear all column filters.
You can also clear the Column Header filters quickly by removing (hiding) the column by which you filtered the grid.
