18.01.09 Removing the Connection between an Excel File and a Takeoff Bid

Last Updated: 2023-07-27 09:24
Caution

The Live Link Add-in has been discontinued by ConstructConnect effective 6/1/2023 and can no longer be downloaded or installed. If you are already using Live Link, it will continue to function for some time, although we no longer provide support for this feature.

We encourage you to review the Related Articles at the bottom of this article on ways of exporting your takeoff results to Excel (and other formats).

In the previous article, we discussed "disconnecting" which is really just "pausing" the interactive connection. If you want to completely remove the connection between your spreadsheet and Takeoff, you have a few options.

Removing the Connection between an Excel file and a Takeoff Bid

Save As a New XLSX File

If you make a copy of the workbook by using the "Save As" menu option in Excel and choose the "XLSX" (with an "x") file type, you are prompted to remove the Live Link connection.

Save as XLSX prompts you to remove Live Link connection

  • If you click Yes, this copy, and the original, are both linked to the same Takeoff bid. You remain "connected" or "disconnected", based on whichever state the spreadsheet was in when you saved the copy. When you click the "Connect" button again, all the changes made to Takeoff Items' Results are pulled into the spreadsheet (this typically takes a few seconds).
  • If you click No, the connection to Takeoff (and all Live Links) is removed from the new copy of the spreadsheet. When you click "Connect", you are presented with the Projects and Bids List from which you can select a different bid to connect.

Save As Any Other File Type (not XLSX)

If you make a copy of the workbook by using the "Save As" menu option in Excel and choose any file type other than "XLSX" (with an "x") the Live Link connection is removed.

You cannot create a Live Link to Takeoff in any file type other than "XLSX" (with the "x").
