The Takeoff Items and Typical Groups Panes are stored or docked into the left-side dock by default. Each of these Panes, like all other Panes, can be shown or hidden, docked or undocked, or moved from one side of the application to the other.
The Takeoff Items Pane
The Takeoff Items Pane is where you create and manage all the Takeoff Items that account for the various building objects you want to measure or quantify.
The Takeoff Items Pane can be grouped, sorted, filtered, and rearranged to suit your needs. We'll cover all that later in this Chapter when we detail the functionality of the Takeoff Items Pane (see Related Articles if you just can't contain yourself).
The Takeoff Items Pane and the Typical Groups Pane are docked together on the left side of the application to make it easier for right-handed people to perform takeoff (which involves selecting a Takeoff Item or Typical Group and then drawing on the plans). If you are left-handed, you may want to dock these Panes on the right-side of the application, whatever is easier for your.
You can undock all the list Panes to put them on different monitors - this makes the most of the available space for the Takeoff (Plan View) Window. See Related Articles for information on docking/undocking Panes.
The Typical Groups Pane
Also docked on the left is the Typical Groups Pane.
Briefly, a Typical Group is soft of an advanced copy and paste function, but it goes way beyond that. Typical Groups make measuring areas of your construction project that repeat numerous times easier. You define the Typical Group, then use it to place a group of takeoff objects on your plans, wherever you click.
Just like the Takeoff Items Pane, the Typical Groups Pane can be grouped, sorted, and filtered to suit your needs.
Typical Groups are part of Typical Takeoff and can safe you significant time when performing your quantity survey. We cover Typical Takeoff in Related Articles along with our patented Multi-Condition Takeoff.
